TRANSLATION SOIRÉE

– language/speech dance of words, sounds, pauses and silence –
Solo performance at the border of “text-appeal“, of narrated theatre and a speech workshop in original version, translations as well as stealations both the actor´s as well as others´. The author format of Translation Soirée evolved from the actor´s several years of teaching experience in the field of speech training, recitation and dialogues at home and abroad, with foreigners at home and with locals abroad. The recitation of texts to foreigner in their mother tongues and teaching the Czechs in foreign languages uncovered to the actor (and his students) the liberating, rejuvenatory and creative play with languages. Languages are not objects of daily consumption for the recitator, they are not subject to consumer approach towards language every mother tongue, used from morning to evening nearly automatically (as on a conveyor belt), is threatened by.
We can master foreign languages fluently, although we can hardly achieve the meaning range in their use as in the case of mother tongue. This is then the chance and challenge for the body expression of the language, for an oral gesture, for acting through speech. In this regard the foreign language can paradoxically activate us more than our language and it can create a sense of rhythm, cadence, melody, colour, taste and smell of the word or for the sonic of the word as such. And this buried sense and senses (the language sensitivity) can return the experience with the body distinct and expressive foreign language to our mother language.
In the Translation Soirée, translations (and sometimes stealations) are conceived and discussed not only as simple transfers from one language to another. Experimenting with them is not limited merely to various forms of language and speech change within one text (which happens there too). Sometimes it is the transfer into its onomatopoeic structure, sometimes it is “turning off the sound“ and transfering the text purely into the kinestetic movement of the reciter.
